Journal from the voyage of the clipper ship Mandarin from New York to San Francisco and Canton, 1850-1851.

Account kept by the captain's wife, an intelligent and articulate observer, detailing her life at sea and in various ports. The ship arrived in San Francisco on Thanksgiving Day 1850 (Nov. 29) and left for Canton on Dec. 20. On 4 April 1851 they left Canton bound for New York via the China Sea, Indian Ocean, and Atlantic Ocean arriving at Brooklyn on 31 July 1851. Journal begins with a list of books she read on the voyage.
